And Moshes hands became heavy, so (Aaron and Chur) took a stone and placed it under him and he sat on it.
And (Moshe held) his hands in steady prayer until the setting of the sun.

  • A Call to my Brothers in the Diaspora

    In Contemporary Issues

American Jewry must therefore raise itself like a roaring lion. It is obligated to organize massive demonstrations in every city, like the one in Manhattan, not once not twice but as many times as necessary till the American administration starts to realize that it has crossed the borders of what is acceptable.Dear Jewish brothers in the USA:

  • The Faith of the Pained

    In Contemporary Issues

One of the most astonishing facts about the current situation in the land of Israel is the outpouring of unprecedented faith. While confronted by ongoing terrorist attacks in which hundreds of people have been murdered and thousands have been injured we are encountering a new phenomenon in modern Jewish history: The capacity of trust in God and Judaism in the face of unparalleled pain and disaster by those who should have been the first ones to lose it.

  • What will you say to your children?

    In Contemporary Issues

An open letter to my friends and students in Chutz La'aretz:
As the Jewish year 5761 is coming to a close, it is most appropriate to remind ourselves that it has been nearly twelve months since Israel found itself in a guerrilla war with deadly terrorists whose main goal is to kill as many Jews as possible. The Palestinian Authority and the Arab world have indoctrinated the world with their lies and manipulations and created a global atmosphere of anti-Semitism which has turned governments and media against the State of Israel and its citizens.

  • The Jewish attitude toward killing

In Contemporary Issues and Parashat Vayishlach

In these most trying days for the people of Israel, in which many Palestinians have gone to the streets in Ramalah and other places, to celebrate the killing of Jews including children, babies, soldiers policemen and women in terrorists attacks, it is important for us to remember who we are.

    The situation in Israel
    Tuesday, 28 Adar, 5762, 12 March, 2002

While I am sitting here in my home in Jerushalayim writing to all of you, I can hear heavy bombing which makes my home shake as if heavy mortars are falling in my backyard. I see missiles flying over, hitting the headquarters of our enemies. The radio informs us of an ongoing terrorist attack, which this time, does not seem to end. Until now 6 Jews have been killed within the first minutes of the attack.

  • The Future of the Miraculous State of Israel

    In Contemporary Issues

" If the nations of the world accuse Israel of banditry by conquering the land of Israel…then the people of Israel will answer and say: "In the beginning God created heaven and earth. The entire universe belongs to Him. He created it and He gave it to whomever He deemed fit. It was His desire to give [the land] to the Caananites first and it was His desire to take it from them and to grant it to us."

    .............The Wisdom of an Apikores
In my younger days, I knew a man who was a convinced and committed apikores (heretic). I used to meet him every Shabbath morning in synagogue where he was a frequent worshipper. He often would walk into the sanctuary, tell people that they were wasting their time coming to the morning service "since there is no God," and then he would proceed to his seat. Thereupon, he would cover himself with his talith, open his prayer book and join the service with great fervor.

  • The failure of the Religious Parties

    In Contemporary Issues

(Rabbis with a knife between their teeth). Now that the chess players in Israeli politics have been drastically moved, and for the first time a mainly secular government is leading the country, it is high time the religious parties, religious institutions and their leadership ask themselves some hard and uncomfortable questions.

  • Palestinian’s Claim to Israel

In Contemporary Issues and Parashat Noach

In Tractate Sanhedrin (91a), we read about a most relevant story which took place in the days of Alexander of Macedonia, known as Alexander the Great (4th century before the common era.) Just after Moshe' death, when Yehoshua entered the land of Israel together with his people, there were seven tribes, hostile to the Jews, occupying the land.

  • The Chosen People?

    In Contemporary Issues

One of the most disturbing claims ever made by any group of people is the one Jews make when, quoting the Bible, they insist upon being called the "Chosen People." For nearly four thousand years, Jews have upheld the belief that they are God's elect, the "apple of His eye," His most beloved and favored nation. This claim sounds like prejudice of the highest order, making the vast majority of mankind into second-class citizens.
